Description

The novel idea of 'Clare Illam Thottipalayam' was the fruit of an effective discussion on "Evangelization 2000" in the Plenary Assembly. With a strong motivation of introducing Jesus Christ to the poor and illiterate, non-Christian people of the locality, by  living in the simplest and hardest situations like those people 'Clare Illam' was established in a small village-Chinnathottipalayam near Karamadai, in Tamil Nadu 1991. The convent was a small rented house with a single room, which was built by Tamil Nadu Government provided for the people there. In the whole diocese of Palakkad, this was the first attempt with an outstanding mode for evangelization. Through this way of living sisters could easily reach the poor people of the locality and save them from different kinds of superstitions and from their bondage under the landlords. The sisters could teach them to practice neatness and godliness and to pray with them. The sisters visited all families in the villages without any distinction of caste or creed and shared the love of Jesus with them though there was some protest in the beginning, everything was settled slowly.

Within this period of time 'Jeevan Jyothi Centre' was started there by the diocese. Now the sisters cooperate with the activities of the centre for the betterment of the people. After living in the rented house  for 4 years a small house was built, buying a plot of 5cents of land nearby. In this house the sisters are leading a very simple life, doing all the works by themselves having complete vegetarian food and being satisfied with the minimum requirements. They have succeded to bring so many people to life in faith through their routine work of house visit, hospital visit,Councelling,  conducting daily prayers, sharing the Word of God etc. On every Friday they have adoration and fasting. Many villagers join them in prayers. Three members are staying there.
